The Lunigiana is known as the land of one hundred castles. In the area many megalitic stone statues were discovered, which are now in the Pontremoli Museum. Crossed by the famous pilgrim road, the Francigena Way, many charming villages and hamlets were built, Villafranca Lunigiana, Filetto, Filattiera, Malgrate, Bagnone, Mulazzo, Pontremoli and Aulla. These are some of the places you can visit, and where you can also find shops, supermarkets, restaurants, bars, pizzerias and delicious home-made italian ice-cream!.
The Lunigiana is also renowned, as many places in Tuscany, for it's cuisine. Local restaurants all have good value typical dishes. Specialities are cold meats, fried seasonal vegetables and vegetable cakes, porcini mushrooms, wild boar and venison...to name but a few. The local wines have a unique fruity flavour, incomparable to any other, adding that touch of refinement to any meal.
